Certification Webinar Q&A

Question: Will the test be administered at a testing center where they have taken COVID precautions?
Answer: Both the CANS and CPSN examinations will be offered at remote testing locations in 2021. The examinations will be done in a computer-based testing format. Applicants will be given a three-month window where they can choose a date to come in and sit for the test. All COVID-19 protocols and social distancing precautions will be taken in all testing centers.

Question: Where can we register for the exam and purchase the study guide?
Answer: The application for the CANS exam can be found here, while the application for the CPSN exam can be found here. You may purchase the study guide on the ISPAN website here.

Question: For CANS, if you want to test in the later part of the year, when should one apply?
Answer: For all 2021 examinations, you will be given a three-month long window where you will be able to choose the date that you would like to take the examination. Due to this rolling cycle, we would suggest turning in your application as soon as possible.

Question: I am part of a group of 8 nurses who are studying together for the CPSN test. Do you have any recommendations on the best way for the group to study for the test?
Answer: The PSNCB thinks that this is a wonderful way to study for the examinations! We suggest purchasing the Core Curriculum: 5th Edition book and the CPSN review course, to quiz one another and test each other’s knowledge of the material. There are testing questions at the end of each chapter which are a very helpful studying tool. There are also practice test questions online that can be utilized.

Question: I have 1000 hours working with a physician in a required field, however I only have 1 year of experience, will I still need to wait another year?
Answer: To sit for the examination, the PSNCB required a minimum of 3 years of experience. You will have to wait until all criteria is met to sit for the examination.

Question: Are there any practice tests available online for CANS?
Answer: The PSNCB does not offer practice tests, however there are sample questions that can be found online. There are also test questions at the end of each chapter of the Core Curriculum: 5th Edition textbook.

Question: When is your recommendation to turn in applications if wanting to test in the spring?
Answer: For all 2021 examinations, you will be given a three-month long window where you will be able to choose the date that you would like to take the examination. Due to this rolling cycle, we would suggest turning in your application as soon as possible.
