The Mission of PSNCB is to develop and administer a certification program in plastic surgical and aesthetic nursing to candidates who meet specified eligibility criteria.
The specialty of plastic surgical and aesthetic nursing promotes attainment of recognized standards of nursing practice for optimal patient care. PSNCB believes that the attainment of a common knowledge base, use of the nursing process, and a specialized level of skill in the practice setting required for the specialty practice of plastic surgical and aesthetic nursing and should receive professional recognition.
The PSNCB is committed to the advancement of professional nursing through recognition of nurses displaying knowledge and competency in the specialty practice of plastic surgical nursing.
The purpose of PSNCB is to promote the highest standards of plastic and reconstructive surgical and aesthetic nursing practice through the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of all aspects of the certification and recertification processes.
The Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board (PSNCB) was established in 1989 for the purpose of promoting the highest standards of plastic surgical and aesthetic nursing practice through the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of all aspects of the certification and recertification processes.
The PSNCB is comprised of registered nurses with content expertise in plastic surgical and aesthetic nursing. The Board collaborates with the Center for Nursing Education and Testing (C-NET) in test development, test administration, and test evaluation. Two certification examinations are offered to nurses meeting the specified criteria, the Certified Plastic Surgical Nurse (CPSN) and the Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS).
The PSNCB believes that attainment of a common knowledge base, utilization of the nursing process, and a high level of skill in the practice setting are required for proficient practice in the specialty of plastic and reconstructive surgical and aesthetic nursing. Certification provides professional recognition for these achievements. The Board recognizes the value of education, administration, research and clinical practice in fostering professional and clinical growth.
